THE EVENT…
WORKSHOPS
Workshops are offered Friday-Sunday and are led by the community of FreakDown (that’s you!). Some past workshops have included: Weaving with Nature, Intro to Tutting, Song Writing, Understanding the Vulva, Intro to Trapeze, Knot Tying, Aquatic Macro Invertebrate ID & Ecology, Theater Improv, Polyrhythmic Drumming, Kid’s Song Circle, and so much more. Every year we have a new lineup of workshops.
MUSIC
We strive to bring a wide variety of music to our lineup. We have fully curated music and entertainment from Thursday through Sunday night.
FOOD
We have a central kitchen that provides breakfasts and dinners included in your ticket price. Meals have vegan/vegetarian and gluten-free options.
Coffee and tea are provided in the morning.
Please bring your own snacks and lunch. We encourage you to bring lunches and snacks that do not require a stove.
Please bring your own utensils, cup, and bowl/plate.
There will be a variety of beverages sold onsite. Please bring cash for purchase.
Immersive Art Experiences
At FreakDown, we offer a wide variety of entertainment. From interactive and immersive spaces to a curated clothing swap, kids parades, The Quest, puppet shows, VIP experience packages, and our beloved variety show, we’ve got something for everyone.
CAMPING
General Camping:
We offer tent camping in an area of the property affectionately called “The Triangle”, located in a triangular wedge of land nestled between Keller Creek and the Yachats River. This is flat, shaded and only accessible by footbridge during the event.
Due to limited space, we ask that you keep your camp footprint small and don’t create large “living room” spaces around your tent.
This area is not ideal for families with children or those with mobility concerns.
Family Camping:
Family camp is situated close to amenities on a gently sloped lawn with moderate shade and sun. It is equipped with a small kitchen for quick prep of necessary in-between meal snacks and an interactive play zone for kids of all ages. Family camp is the furthest camp from the closest creek access point.
If you indicate interest in staying in the Family Camping area, our Family Camp Coordinator will be in contact with you ahead of the event.
Car camping:
There is limited car camping available, however, we recommend tent camping.
Car camping is located across the road from the event and separated from activities. This can be a good option if you need more quiet or private space or need to camp in your vehicle for any reason.
WHAT TO BRING…
Tent, bedding, etc.
Toiletries and towel (for shower or swimming)
Headlamp
Personal dishes (bowl, spoon, fork, non-glass cup)
Swimwear
Lunches, snacks, and beverages
A water jug (there is potable water on site, but we recommend bringing a 1-2 gallon jug with you so you can have water accessible to you at your own camp)
Layers for all the weather!!!!! (sunny, warm, cool, rain, etc.). FreakDown is 9 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean and it can get quite cold at night so we recommend bringing warm jackets and hats. And of course bring COSTUMES!
Shoes that you can dance and walk on grass with and that will keep your feet warm at night.
Cash! Please bring cash for all kinds of fun beverages! Our drinks are very reasonable and incredible.
Earplugs (Freakdown is a compact event and sound travels to all camping areas. Tents are close together and music and DJ sets will go late on Friday and Saturday nights, so please plan accordingly and bring ear plugs/white noise machines, etc).
Optional items:
Costumes and clothes to participate in our daily themes (these will be announced closer to the event)
A photo or small item for a remembrance space to honor those that have passed.
Costumes or fun clothes to donate/exchange at the Wee Petite Boutique. Kids costumes welcome too!
A cart to carry your supplies into your camping area (we also provide wheelbarrows)
Fire extinguisher (We do have fire suppression kits at FreakDown, but we encourage each camp to be self-sufficient with their own as well).
Fancy tea cup for our Sunday tea party!
A note ON accessibility:
FreakDown currently is not ADA accessible but we are working to make the event more accessible in the future. Main activities at FreakDown take place in a large grass meadow, bordered by the Yachats River and Keller Creek. There are two small foot bridges that provide walking access from the camping area and registration into the meadow. The grass in the meadow is mowed, but the ground is relatively uneven.
